[RESOLVED] Dockstar Blinking Amber

Postby radengr » Tue Aug 09, 2011 4:11 am

I just picked up a Dockstar from ebay and when I tried booting it up it just blinked amber. I hooked up a serial cable to it and got the following output when I tried to boot:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'U-Boot 1.1.4 (Jul 16 2009 - 21:02:16) Cloud Engines (3.4.16)

I'm hoping I can recover from this somewhat? I am a little upset that I was sent a "like new" dockstar that wouldn't boot but I just want to run archlinux on it anyway. I was hoping for some advice on where to go next so I don't end up with a dockstar that I have to JTAG.

Thanks!

Well, it didn't take me too long to find something!

This website had instructions that got me booting successfully:
http://wejp.k.vu/dockstar/dockstar_repair_with_serial_cable

The only problem is that the mirror url mentioned there was wrong. This is the right one:

Not everyone has updated to our newer layout.. though it's been interesting to see how many people linked back in their own articles when people report them as broken. Glad you got it fixed.. lots of people ebay bricked plugs, have to be wary.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'l')ots of people ebay bricked plugs, have to be wary.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were honest about it! However, the fact I got this thing fixed in about an hour from when I opened the box, and that includes digging through my workshop for a 3.3v TTL serial adapter, shows how good the community support for these are :)
