Wifi with USB key on Pogoplug V2 pink

Postby BENETNATH » Wed Mar 21, 2012 11:19 am

Hi,

i want to add a wifi capability to my precious device.
It has to work with ipv4 and ipv6 with a WPA2 signal.
Any advice on a device, and any tutorial to add it ?
is it possible, it is hard (i'm between the noob and the person able to understand a tutorial :) ) ???

I am planning to use this key TL-WN821N, as it seems ok with linux

any help is welcome :)

ip4/6 are layer 3 and as such don't matter.

Requirements: WPA2 .. PSK, Enterprise?

WPA2/TKIP from my triple play box,

otherwise, no special requirements.

just as a follow-up
i've bought the key, plugged it.
it apperead directly as wlan0
then

pacman -S wifi-select

in root mode : wifi-select wlan0
select the network in the interface, enter the key

you are then connected

to have auto conection on reboot :

pacman -S wpa_actiond

add in rc.conf

# ...
WIRELESS_INTERFACE="wlan0"
#...
DAEMONS=([...] net-auto-wireless [...])

That's all folks :)

Thank you for your guide - I had almost persuaded myself to purchase an Edimax Nano (simply because of it's small size) but your experience with the TP I'm considering my options again... Thanks!

Little update.

i've got some trouble when i access my plug through upnp.
during some video replay on my set top box, i have sometimes freezing, then i have to reboot the pogoplug in order to have access to it, even ssh is down.

How can i debug that, which log might help me ?
i wonder if some cron is launched and requires eth0 network or something like that..

the dock otherwise is stable when i keep him quiet ...

Minor point: that's way off topic.

OK

coming back with my trouble.
i still cannot use my wifi key as it's not stable at all.
may be it's due to atheros chip on my usb key..
i'll try to get another one to give a try
