pacman -Syu recommended?

Postby chadr » Mon Apr 09, 2012 2:49 pm

I have a pink pogoplug and was trying to install some packages today and wondered whether I should update everything. Is a command like pacman -Syu recommended?

No. We only update packages daily for fun, they're not meant to actually be used.

This command ends in an error. Should I be answering no to some of these questions?

Code: Select all

You are way behind in updates.

pacman -S linux linux-headers, say yes to replace kernel26 stuff, then pacman -Syu

I had similar problems and have been able to update. You should update sysvinit first with pacman -S sysvinit and the command given by kmihelich will do the trick.

History of commands. Not all of them should be used but it worked for me so I let them here :)
Code: Select all
pacman -S filesystem
pacman -S kmod
pacman -S linux-headers
pacman -S sysvinit
pacman -S linux
pacman -Syu
rm /etc/profile.d/locale.sh
pacman -Syu

Initial situation
Code: Select all
[root@alarm ~]# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...

Do you mean "pacman -Sy" and "pacman -S package" daily ?

OR

Do you mean "pacman -S package" until 404 error OR unsatisfying dependency happen, then "pacman -Sy" ?

Sy is generally a best option because it updates your local index.
