TonidoPlug2 Instructions?

Postby coldmug » Wed Apr 04, 2012 8:31 am

I recently bought a TonidoPlug 2 and am planning to run arch or debian on it. I read through this thread http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1659&start=20
but I can't tell if he uses the same procedure as here
http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/tonidoplug
Is it the same procedure? Or will I have to do something different? Do I have to use ssh or some fancy serial cable (I think it was mentioned in the thread once)?

His ouput has a "Marvell" prompt like this
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Marvell>> ide reset')
Instead of what I was expecting an ssh prompt to look like
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# ide reset')
Hence the confusion.

That is a uboot prompt, and we're aware of the differences in it.

At the moment, we do not own one of these devices, but someone has been recently kind enough to provide us with 2 of its relatives, USI Topkicks. We are in the process of getting everything running 100% (runs great, off of usb, LEDs are not perfect, and wifi isn't there yet)

I can't wait :)

Browsing the Tonido forums, it would seem that tonido is running Debian. I wonder if it is running an ssh server, if so, I could just log in and work on the stock OS. It should be able to run apt-get etc.

Apologies, but I still haven't found the time to actually run my own device :oops:. But planning to this weekend

@WarheadsSE:
If there is anything I can help with, testing, etc.. let me know.

EDIT:
What is a "USI Topkicks", did a google search for "USI Topkick kirkwood" and couldn't find anything.

The Topkick is the Mfr sample. Notice the -topkick- in the TP2's kernel tarball name ;)

Well aside from the wifi (mwifiex SD8786, thanks for asking over there), I've got SATA, sdio, all the LEDs. I'm hunting wifi now.

We've created a board config for the Topkick, and built against 3.1.10-8-ARCH (latest as of today).

The topkick's uboot doesn't have the SATA power init code active (grr) so I'd ask you if the TonidoPlug2 does. (interrupt uboot, ide reset, ide list)

Arg, problem found:

mwifiex_sdio in 3.1.10 knows nothing of the SD8786, only the SD8787, and I am hunting that issue down.

Okay:
- We had to patch in the support for the SD8786, got that done as modeled by upstream kernels for the same module
- We've set it to 4 mtd parts, however the topkick only has 256M nand, so we may need to make another mach for the TP2
- We need to verify the TP2 GPIOs match (probably will)
- We're building it in now, arcNumber 4101 (USI Topkick)

What an awesome bday gift !!!! Only thing stoping me from testing the new uboot mach code is that i no longer have a working win7 driver for my serial wire. Will order a new one today.
