Netgear Stora

Install Arch Linux ARM on other devices.

Netgear Stora

Just wondering if anyone has tried Arch Linux ARM on a Netgear Stora?

Hmm, what about a Beagleboard?

My Plug completely died so I'm not that confident about buying another one.

It can be done on a Beagleboard using a kernel made for it, but I'm not sure about the Netgear Stora - is it armv5tel or above? Too many routers/network devices have MIPS processors...

Yes, the Stora is...

Code: Select all
ARM926EJ-S [56251311] revision 1 (ARMv5TE)
Marvell Development Board Soc: 88F6281 A0 LE
NAND device: Manufacturer ID: 0xec, Chip ID: 0xda (Samsung NAND 256MiB 3,3V 8-bit)
Creating 3 MTD partitions on "nand_mtd":
0x00000000-0x00100000 : "u-boot"
0x00100000-0x00700000 : "uImage"
0x00700000-0x10000000 : "root"
e100: Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Driver, 3.5.17-k4-NAPI
Linux version 2.6.22.18-Netgear (gcc version 4.2.1) RPM based system from axentra.com

with 128Mb ram and 2 x 3.5 SATA drives. They're quite cheap these days, I've seen them for as low as $106AUD without drives. I'm using optware atm and I would try to add Arch Linux ARM so I could use makepkg but the current kernel is too old so I'd have to reflash the device.

Code: Select all
root@stora ~ /opt/usr/bin/pacman.static -S --help
FATAL: kernel too old
Segmentation fault

Any hints what howto to follow to reflash the above?

And where could I find more info about setting up a Arch Linux ARM SD card for a Beagleboard?

IMHO a cheaper solution is Seagates GoFlex Net or Home witch based on the same hardware...
The Net version has two sata ports and the home shipped with 1TB or 2TB hdd and has only one sata port.

We don't have a BeagleBoard guide, but I'm assuming you could just follow say, a Debian guide, except using Arch Linux ARM install Linux's rootfs. The rootfs download contains the whole / partition and a uImage kernel in /boot/uImage. Then you just ask the BeagleBoard to boot the kernel with root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 (At least that's how I've always seen SD cards), partition 1 would of course the the rootfs on an ext2/3/4 partition.

Any hope you can post an install guide here in the forums? And tag it as [GUIDE]? Please copy and paste as much as you can from other places too! I'll sticky it right away.
