Hello all, I just wanted to thank you for the great job with archlinuxarm and the great forum. I have a chromebook as well. I have removed the sticker around the screw and flashed nv-u-boot, I use ratpoison, urxvt, zsh, uzbl, mpd, mplayer(still a bit laggy sometimes), fbdev driver for graphics, distcc. Running great, this pc has become my 24/7 anywhere in town companion, with its 6,5 hour battery life and just 0.9kg weight. I also added an SD card because since you cant easily replace the SSD I was worried about write-wear and put /var, /home and /srv on it, since it can be raplaced easily anytime. Now I have the sd-card 24/7 inside the chromebook, I was a bit woried about the size since it was sticking out so after a quick search I found out that sd card nowadays reside only in the top part of the whole plastick cover, so I cut the card.

This is my story I hope somebody finds it interesting. Thanks again everyone for this great distro. Keep up the good work.

I've got the one from DX and while it a bit difficult to get the uSD out of the adapter it's working great Sandisk 64GB class 10 card.

@dhead666

Thanks for the info. But it requires a Micro SD card, I just cut my BIG ***** SD Card, almost in half.

Thanks again.

Is there a workaround to avoid the random power on issue? It's extremely annoying to grab the Chromebook you left fully charged one day ago, to find it's hot (because it auto turned on) and the battery is depleted .

I have found that if you turn it off, then press keys and then turn it on, keys you pressed while the laptop was supposed to be off, appear on the u-boot prompt. But if you power the laptop off by holding 10 seconds the power button, keys do not appear (but unfortunately turning it off this way does not prevent it to randomly turn on anyway).

It's probably getting bumped in your bag. This is a known annoying issue, even with ChromeOS...

Hello, guys. Does anyone successfully uses 3.8.11 kernel as described here:
http://malideveloper.arm.com/develop-for-mali/features/graphics-and-compute-development-on-samsung-chromebook/
?

I have several problems: random wifi disconnects, kernel-panics and so on. Also suspend with Xorg loaded leads to total freeze with screen on. After that, kernel hangs during loading with messages related to wifi chip.

I tried to make very explicit instructions for flashing the u-boot,
and running from eMMC on the Arch Wiki:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Samsung_Chromebook_(ARM)#How_to_flash_U-Boot

I pulled the information from strata's post on: "Re: ALARM on Samsung
ARM Chromebook", Tue Mar 12, 2013 7:19 am

http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4016&hilit=protect&start=80#p29341

There are some steps I didn't fill out because I was unsure about how
to achieve them. If someone could fill in the gaps that would be
awesome.

ps: I'm not sure if I'm duplicating some other work somewhere else?

If you're not sure how to tell someone how to destructively flash a device, why are you doing it?

Has anyone gotten X performing decently on this yet? Every time I have tried, performance has been meh. Scrolling is jittery/slow. If you compare it to Ubuntu running in crouton (chroot with xephyr), Ubuntu is *much* smoother. I imagine it comes down to some compatibility between the versions of kernel/mali driver/X11, but I'm not sure exactly how to get Arch performing as well as crouton Ubuntu does.

Scrolling has been fine for me on it. Also remember that a chroot install under ChromeOS, mooching off of the ChromeOS display system, drivers, etc, does not equal a full install like what we do.
