I executed all points and created the file /usr/local/mac_addr.

If "device" in this sentence:

The last thing needed is this: create & edit usr/local/mac_addr on the extracted rootfs, (not this machine you are using to do this!) and place in your device's MAC address in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX.

means "pogoplug", how can I find the mac address?

I just made the switch from NAND to SATA boot on my Pogo Pro. It worked first time, no problem! I simplified the procedure just a bit from the recommended one, since I had a complete system (bootable from NAND) already on my SATA drive. First, I plugged the drive into my Ubuntu laptop. Using gparted, I shrank /dev/sdb1 and moved it to the right to make room for the small kernel partition. Then I created an unformatted partition for the kernel. At this point, the partitions were out of sequence. Then I exited gparted and used fdisk to re-sequence the partitions, as explained here: http://journalxtra.com/linuxsanity/how-to-reorder-linux-drive-partition-numbers-2768/. Finally, I edited the disk_create script to specify /dev/sdb and then executed the script. Simple as that! Thank you, WarheadsSE, for figuring all this out. Now I'm ready to try new kernels with no fear. I'll still keep my NAND-bootable USB stick for backup, though.
