Connecting the little Pogo to a 4-bay eSATA port multiplier

Postby amanpatel » Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:54 pm

Currently, an awesome deal going on at newegg for a Sans digital 4-bay enclosure that supports eSATA port multiplier ($95 and you get a printer as well).

My question is whether or not this thing could be connected to the internal SATA port of the pogoplug B0x and be expected to recognize and mount all 4 drives. I read that booting from port multiplier disk would be troublesome because the boot process does not know about port multiplier -- I'm fine with having rootfs on a USB disk instead.

Another goal of mine would be to add user-level raid (something like FlexRAID http://www.flexraid.com/ ) providing redundancy and expansion features for the individual disks on that enclosure. I wonder how the performance would be for streaming video files from FlexRAID'ed userland drivers (especially because we have limited CPU on the pogo).

UPDATE: Deal link in case anyone is interested

Right now, I don't believe the driver supports it properly either.. It would screw with boot, so it would need to be entirely powered off at boot, at the least.
