corrupted USB? SSH connection fail then not seen in network

Postby jjhung88 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 10:22 pm

I am a total linux noob but was able to follow instructions and also search in forum to get my pink pogoplug B01 working with samba, minidlna. I was using a 4GB mini thumb drive from staples and everything seemed to work fine, except for some cd I ripped that I deleted the folder and re-ripped but I could no longer see them in upnp. So a few nights ago I unplugged the unit instead of rebooting from ssh hoping that it will reindex the music file. I used to name the /media folder public and then see the 1TB usb drive in that folder. Suddenly I see an additional drive hda1. When I click both hda1 and the 1TB folder, there are nothing in them, even though I have tones of video in the 1TB usb drive.

I tried to ssh the unit and got the connection failed error but at least I was able to see the unit on the network. So I read the forum and tried to do fsck to the thumb drive. Big mistake and now I don't even see the pogoplug on the network and when I ping the old ip address it just request time out.

I don't think I brick the unit but I am not sure. Will getting a thumb drive with good files fix the problems? If so, how to get it? At this point I just have no idea what to do. Can someone help?

BTW, if only I can reset the pogoplug to factory or be able to ssh, at least I can redo the process of creating the boot thumb drive.

I did it, after trying many things over 2 days because I know nothing about linux. I will provide step by step later for other people like me.
