[SOLVED] Little rainbow square showing always in console

Postby yoghurt » Thu Jul 31, 2014 3:11 pm

I installed Arch on my Raspberry Pi, then applied the latest updates. It is a clean install. After the updates, a square started to appear when I started the Pi.
It's showing always, and is the same as the rainbow splash screen, so I thought that maybe if I disable that with disable_splash=1 in the config.txt, that would be disappear too. But it's still there and I don't know what to do.

Have you got this too? How could you get rid of it?

Update: It isn't only there in the console interface, but also in the graphical one.

Perhaps try another distribution like openelec as well. If it's still there you have a faulty rpi

It wasn't there before. Just appeared since I installed the latest updates.

THat last sentence is a little confusing. Are you saying it is NOT in the console but IS in your graphical interface? If only in graphical, what graphical software is this?

Sorry, I forgot 'only'. It is there, whatever I do, even console or graphical thing.
Is it true that the big rainbow splash screen shouldn't appear before system boot? For me, it appears for 1 second then the system starts to boot. Right after the big splash screen disappears, this little square appears instead of the big one. I tried to use hdmi_safe=1 but it is still there (just bigger because of the smaller resolution). I even tried to use linux-raspberrypi-latest instead of the linux-raspberrypi, but it hasn't helped.

You are going to have to see if you can replicate this, burn card, update, ....

I made a new installation. Everything I did was:

# loadkeys hu
# wifi-menu -o
# pacman -Syu
# reboot

and it is there again. :?

I tried the official Raspbian image, and right after I install all of the updates, this thing appears there too...
I have no idea what could cause it, but it's not limited to Arch. I have a model B+ and my friend has a model B. His system is also up to date, and he doesn't have this bug.

How could I know what package cause it? Install them one by one and reboot every time?

You should report it to https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues
Firmware and kernel source are in common

You probably should also tell them what you are using for a monitor, could be a glitch in the interface with that which does not show up in testing with other monitors.

I wonder if it is some sort of "smart" monitor that is caching the rainbow spash or doing something weird with it.

BTW. I never see that rainbow spash as I always boot headless, and then start X manually with a USB monitor.
