TBS 2910

Postby edke » Thu Jan 09, 2014 10:52 am

Hello.

Just came across info about TBS's newest mini PC called Matrix, TBS 2910. From specs, it can be pretty interesting mini PC.

As a fan of development boards and Arch Linux, I wonder, if it's possible that Arch ARM will support this piece of hardware. I'm currently using Raspberry Pi with Arch Linux or Openelec for XBMC. And also Intel's NUC. This little thing can fit somewhere in between and would be great to see Arch running on it.

@edke

While the picture doesn't show it, the device comes with a small (==noisy) fan.
Except a crappy Chinese TV Stick this is the only iMX6 device that needs an active cooling and that gives you an idea about the quality of the board design.

I wouldn't buy it.
(I did got this week a Cubox-i model which still waits in the box)
Pogoplug Series 4 - Network Storage and Music Server: NFS/TVHeadend
Cubox-i2 - Applications Server: Lighttpd/CherryMusic/HTPCManager/Transmission/Couchpotato/SickBeard/OpenVPN

I read about active cooling thing a bit. Tests proved that on normal usage fan is not even required and can be removed. Developer of TBS responded on forum, that it's for situations, when miniPC used with Android for 3D gaming.

@WarheadsSE

1. how can I help to fix this (donate money, how much, or lend device, ordered 2 days ago) ?
2. I can see that similar devices with this board are being released, one from ZOTAC for instance. Are you planning to support any of them ? Which one ?

We are entirely community funded (and now rarely from our own pockets [massive thank you to our community that this is now!])

The general way things work is that someone will send us a device, or donate funds and mark them with a request that they be used for bringing support for a specific device or family of devices. This is precisely how the NSA325 support came about.

Hi guys,

Much and much more users are getting this device and there are more active development behind it.
One of the thing I miss is the support of ArchLinux ARM OS ...

It will supported? Is there any progress done? ;)

Keep up the great work!

Read my prior comment about supporting a device we do not have.

We have received 3 units, and are distributing them to the developers now.
