[Goflex Home 3TB] Newbie help

Postby dannyp » Wed Mar 14, 2012 8:58 am

Firstly I know next to nothing about linux. (doesn't help)

I followed the instructions for the install for the Goflex Home and it all look to go ok (apart from the 3tb partitioning thing).
After the reboot it is not connecting to the network, the front light is just flashing green.

I have look at other posts and they suggest using net console.
With this in mind I downloaded ubuntu live to run on my pc, got my crossover cable, connected the base to the pc, opened the terminal and tried to connect to the base but had no luck.

I'm not sure what i am doing wrong (probably because i dont know what i am doing :? ). I had the pc's network card set as local-link but dont know if that was correct!

Hope someone can help me, I really hope it is not bricked!!

Thanks in advance,

Did you follow all netconsole instructions correctly? In ubuntu live cd check your NIC name by running in terminal "ifconfig" is it eth0?

I think I did it correctly. From the advanced tab I ran the nc -lu 10.10.10.5 6666 but the cursor just blinked and nothing.

Is it correct to have the card set to local link and to use a cross over cable?

Really just don't know what I am doing wrong!

To use the netconsole, that is the right command for netcat, however, people need to remember that the alias with the IP has to be set up on the machine that will be running nc!

What i meant is that you have to run these command prior to executing netcat
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ' sudo ifconfig eth0:0 10.10.10.5
sudo ifconfig eth0:1 10.10.10.4
sudo ifconfig eth0:2 10.10.10.2 ')

if you did that, but it didntwork, then run ifconfig to confirm your nic is recognised in ubuntu and that it is eth0

This is my experience
type 'sudo ifconfig eth0:0 10.10.10.5' first
Then turn on the goflex pet and immediately enter 'nc -lu 10.10.10.5 6666' (you can type them first but don't press enter)

don't try 10.4 and 10.2 at the same time , try it one by one (reboot and retry)
don't enter nc command too early otherwise i don't get output.

I have actually pre-spawned all of the nc's and watch it roll across..

Ok. thanks to tomcheng76. I connected first time and got the marvell>> prompt up.

What are my next steps to fix it and get It into a position where it will boot properly, and I still have the 3tb drive to sort out

I didn't enter the Marvell prompt it just came up, please note I didn't have the drive in the cradle at the time so maybe thats why it came up.

Where do I get the logs from to post, and do I need to connect to it with with the drive in the cradle??

Sorry if these are stupid questions but that is how I feel at the moment.
