.11 is the pogo and .70 is my laptop so looks like the settings are correct.

Good idea on the pings. I will test it again to make sure (although I'm pretty sure that it doesn't reply to ping until Arch has finished booting since when I was trying to spot packets using Wireshark I was running ping during the boot).

Presumably I should also see an ARP broadcast from the Pogo so will look for that on Wireshark too.

Thanks again all for trying to help!

Sorry for another vague guess: Could it be CONFIG_PREBOOT is not defined?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
') When this option is #defined, the existence of the
environment variable "preboot" will be checked
immediately before starting the CONFIG_BOOTDELAY
countdown and/or running the auto-boot command resp.
entering interactive mode.

That's actually the culprit. I have now installed mainline U-Boot on a GoFlex Home and get no response from netconsole when using the settings described by elroberto. A workaround is to add the preboot commands to the beginning of bootcmd. However, due to the missing bootdelay I wasn't able to interrupt the boot process by typing ctrl-j in order to access the u-boot console. So I rebuilt the uboot-goflexhome package with #define CONFIG_PREBOOT added to include/configs/goflexhome.h and that solved the issue.

Does it boot without the netcat listening? I had a problem with older bodhi's build for gfh when it would get stuck without netcat listening on the pc.

Makes no difference, it also boots if netcat is not listening. By default the system on SATA is started (I've successfully tested ext3/MBR, ext4/MBR and ext4/GPT). If SATA disk is not present or has no uImage on it the USB system is booted.
