As I suggested earlier, below would work for you guaranteed ( I have two V4 Mobiles using this daemon now)

Thanks pepedog, I will shutdown with this method, and then wait a good minute before unplugging.

sync && poweroff

I have this problem with the 8GB Kingston USB drives as well. /sbin/reboot works fine, but power-cycling kills it and KIngston will never boot up again.

I installed arch on a 4GB PNY drive and it works after every power cycle. Instead of setting up the Kingston from scratch, I also tried dd'ing the PNY drive to the Kingston drive, and the Kingston drive still makes the Pogo blink.

I would power down the Pogo while the Kingston is plugged in. Then take it out and put in the PNY drive. Power the Pogo again, and I am booted up. So I don't believe the Kingston is modifying the bootloader. Otherwise, the PNY wouldn't boot up.

I think there is something in the Kingston drive that makes it incompatible with the Pogo V4. Kingston drives work fine for my Pogo E02.

I guess the advice here is, Don't use the Kingston drives on the Pogo V4!

Here's one minor hint: it is massively unlikely that the USB drive is actually corrupting the bootloader. More likely, it is behaving in a way that the bootloader can not handle.
