Maybe this annotations for "eMMC Module Creation" in the xu3 instructions are helpfull (that was how it works for me): Point 3. the "cd /boot" means you have to "cd" to the boot-section of the installed arch linux rfs on the eMMC (which is via adapter in the micro sd card slot; you boot the actual system from another linux on eMMC in the eMMC slot of the xu3). The command "./sd_fusing.sh /dev/mmcblk0" didn't work for me. You have to look for the place of the arch linux rfs (in my case it was mmcblk1). And it works only with the command from the sd card instructions ("sh sd_fusing.sh /dev/mmclbk1" in my case). After that I put the arch linux eMMC in the eMMC slot of the xu3, change the tiny switch to boot from eMMC and it works :)

Are you saying I need 2 eMMC modules to get this working? I followed the instructions also, and can not get the eMMC to boot on the SD adapter so I can do the next step.

I had to do something similar. To reflash the bootloader to the protected area of the eMMC module I had to:
Put the module in its slot but boot another Linux image on an SD card and then mount the eMMC module.
Then I could use sd_fusing.sh

Dear,

I had only one eMMC and no µSD. I followed the tutorial, without fusing ( it was already done, I bought from Hardkernel). And it works!

NOTE: I installed the OS on a regular computer with Archlinux, you can use the Archlinux's LiveUSB to do it.

Step 3.c of the installation instructions is incorrect. The starting sector *must* but 3072. See the partition table on hardkernel's wiki:
http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... tion_table

Or look at these instructions for how Gentoo and Ubuntu installations partition the disks:

Gentoo: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=8092
Ubunutu: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=3662

Hey guys,

So if I get this working, what support is there for hardware accelerated graphics and the MFC?
If these are not supported I won't go ahead with the install, as I want to run Kodi

Cheers,
Bernie

Hi Folks,

I have successfully installed Arch on my eMMC card, but I had to do something different as the instructions did not work for me. (I have an eMMC card that had an ODROID install of Lubuntu)

What I had to do was the following:
1. Place the eMMC card in the microSD adaper and place that in a microSD->SD adapter into my Linux Laptop.
2. Follow the instructions, but dont do the dd to zero the 1st few blocks. When doing fdisk starting block MUST be 3072, complete the installing of the image. DON'T do the sd_fusing.sh stuff at all! (It already has bootloader ..)
3. DON'T run the eMMC card in the microSD adapter on the XU3 as suggested, instead just install the card as normal and boot the eMMC card.
4. ssh into the XU3 from the laptop.
5. IT WORKS.

Maybe the original instructions for installing to eMMC should reflect what the medium had on it when purchased from Hardkernel, i.e either Android or Lubuntu .. that would be helpful.

Well forget my instructions above .... I cannot repeat them on a second eMMC card :(

I am at my wits end trying to get a second eMMC card installed, I have tried everything in this thread, including the original instructions off the wiki, and nothing works ... :x

Anyone have some instructions that work for a eMMC card that has Lubuntu on it? Pretty please :) :)

EDIT: Actually it does work, it makes a difference what sort of adapter you put the microSD card in when you set it up.
For me, putting it into ad SD adapter into a USB card reader did not work, but putting the sdcard into my laptops SD card port works ... go figure :o
