[RESOLVED] Editing hosts OR re.conf

Postby NatchGreyes » Sat Feb 04, 2012 5:42 pm

I'm a n00b trying out lifehacker's pogoplug instructions and need some help. I got through the instructions provided here and have installed everything up to Apache. The problem I'm having is that I don't understand how to save an edited hosts file and I can only seem to find instructions for Terminal. I'm using Putty.

The problem is my /etc/hosts file and /etc/rc.conf file have different hostnames. I can edit the hostname in either, but I'm not sure how to save and exit. See screenshot, e.g.:

My question is after I change the hostname from "localhost" to something consistent how do I save and exit?

Thanks in advance.

Ctrl+O = Write Out
Ctrl+X = Exit

See the bottom of your screenshot?

It even asks you if you want to save on exit if you don't write the file first...

Thanks!

Sorry, I know that was probably a really dumb question, but I didn't realize ^=Ctrl
