[RESOLVED] /lib/libacl.so.1: invalid ELF header

Postby ankit » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:50 pm

I have been running arch on a pogoplug pro for the past month. The rootfs is on a USB flash drive, and a swap file is on an external hard drive. Today when I ssh into the plug and issue the "ls" command, I am getting the following error:

Code: Select all
[root@ankplug bin]# ls -l
ls: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libacl.so.1: invalid ELF header

I get the same error when I try running pacman and a few other programs. Other programs (such as top, sudo, vi, etc) work fine. I don't think I updated the system recently (not in the last 2-3 days), and can't think of any other change I might have made. Do you think this may be a bad file system? Anything else that might have caused this?

If you haven't updated, its certainly worth hooking the flash drive up to another system and running an fsck on it.

Tried fsck. It fixed a bunch of errors, but I got the same error as above when I booted the plug. Re-installed on a hard-drive this time. Not sure what could have caused the filesystem to break - maybe the flash drive was bad (or went bad).

Sometimes people are surprised by how fragile USB flash drives are. It's bitten me once or twice.
