I need a DLNA server for Pogo Plug V2

Postby jeajea » Fri Feb 14, 2014 12:56 am

I purchased a Blu-Ray played (Sony BDP-S5100) that can play files from a DLNA server but can’t access a Samba share.
I did a package search on DLNA and found these but I don’t have a clue of which one to select.

minidlna seems like popular choice around here. You do have to make sure that the files you share are supported by the blu-ray player because there is no reencoding with any dlna server on these devices

Thanks
Minidnla is working with the Sony s5100 and my Xbox. However, 1080P wmv files stall. The Sony show the bitrate is running between 14 and 20 mbps. I suspect the Pogplug v2 either doesn’t have enough processing power or memory.

is your bd player connected over wifi? if it is, then it likely is the problem. i can copy files over samba at 30mB/s = 240 mbit/s over gigabit network.

Both the Pogoplug and the BD player are on the same gigabit switch.
The files are on a WD 1.5 TB USB3/2 portable (2.5 inch) hard drive.
The BD player Ethernet port is 100mbit.
The Xbox connects to the switch via Actiontec Moca 1.1 coax to Ethernet bridges.

Then take a look at the CPU Load on the device while you are streaming with htop/top. You could also try streaming the same thing from your much more powerful computer as an experiment.

CPU load is low even when streaming one of the 1080p WMV files.
I installed minidlna on my Zyxel NSA 325 and it plays the 1080p files with no stalls. :)
I think the 325s 512MB of memory is what is needed but its processor is also 33% faster.
The Pogoplug is OK with 720p WMV files and 1080p MKV files.
