Cubieboard crashes when attaching USB device

Postby omnibrain » Fri Mar 07, 2014 12:51 pm

Hi all

I have recently acquired a Cubieboard 1, and intended to use it as media server, running MPD. The device is running fine, is connected via wifi dongle (Edimax EW-7811UN) to my network, all good.

But here's the strange part: As soon as I connect another USB device, for instance my DAC to the second USB slot, the Wifi connection drops instantly. And apparently this happens with any kind of USB device, not only the DAC but also with a simple USB flash drive. What is even more strange is that if the cubieboard is connected to the network via ethernet, everything works fine even when two USB devices (e.g. Wifi dongle and DAC) are attached and active.

My first thought was that my power supply is too weak for two USB devices, but now I have a 2A power supply, which should be more than enough.

Dmesg doesn't seem to notice that the connection drops

dmesg | grep wlan0:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[ 4.590000] systemd[1]: Expecting device sys-subsystem-net-devices-wlan0.device...
[ 10.190000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

[ 11.280000] wlan0: authenticated

[ 11.380000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready
[ 21.460000] wlan0: no IPv6 routers present')

Have you experienced anything similar? Can you give me some guidances where to look for problems?

Thanks for any help in advance.
