libpcre problems

I installed current image for beaglebone back, then pacman'd gcc, make, svn, tcpdump, vim, cmake. Somewhere along the way I lost "grep" and "less" with libpcre (file too short) error. ldconfig indicates these as empty. Upgrade does nothing. The links are in /usr/lib but the link destination is a zero size file.
