Pogopig V2 Arm5 using maximum file space

Postby g8jvm » Mon May 12, 2014 4:06 pm

Hi
Recenetly resurrected the pogopig running motion.
Its running of a 8 GB USB stick, but decides its only going to use 2.7 GB.
I've resize the primary partition to 2.7 GB and created another ext3 primary partition for the remaining 4GB,

I know 2.7 +4 does not equal 8, but thats what gparted wanted to do with it on the laptop.

How do I get the second partition seen and used ? df doesn't show it .
I'm aware Arch doesn't handle partitions thye same as other distros.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but not found by me.

|Maybe Murphy should have written a third law, something like " the probablity of a search engine finding exactlty
whats required is inversly proportion to the desire to find it "

Thanks
Richard
Best wishes
Richard

I have E02's with 16GB, single partition flash sticks. Something is wrong.

Thanks.

the USB memeory stick had one partition about 8 GB long, but
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@Pogopig ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/root 2.7G 1.1G 1.6G 40% /
devtmpfs 123M 0 123M 0% /dev
tmpfs 124M 0 124M 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 124M 332K 123M 1% /run
tmpfs 124M 0 124M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs 124M 0 124M 0% /tmp
tmpfs 25M 0 25M 0% /run/user/0
')

As you can see it thinks its just 2.7G, that why I tried shrinking down to that and adding another partition

Any idea where to look, I can always resize it back up to one partition 8G .

TIA
Best wishes
Richard

Also
which kernel am I really running, there are some confusing posts about this
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Linux version 3.1.10-33-ARCH (nobody@root-armv5-copy) (gcc version 4.8.2 20131219 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 PREEMPT Sun Apr 27 02:45:06 MDT 2014')

I think its an early kernel , is this why I'm limited on file space ??????
Best wishes

I am saying something is literally wrong with your partitioning. Outright, its bonk. You should have no issues with making an 8GB partition. Do you have something happening such as a disparity between an MBR and GPT somehow? There should be no reason it is not seeing all partitions, let alone being unable to use it contiguously.

That kernel has NO issues with disks over up to even 4TB.

Your kernel version is a separate issue, and can be solved by ensuring your u-boot is updated, and then installing linux-kirkwood (3.14+)

OK all noted,
even with a 8Gb partition it would only show a jmaximum of 2.7G, as soon as I put he
latest kirkwood kernel in it showed the full partition,
I now have the space so doesn't matter now.
Best wishes
