ArchLinux Rasperry bootcode: Open Source ?

Postby mabra » Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:25 am

Hi All !

I am completely new to ArchLinux, especially for Arm. I found this, after
I had to recognize, that the bootcode for the Raspberry.PI - at least for
the debian edition - is not open.

I currently try to make all my computers "NSA free" and I'll leave the
computer genetic maize, called "Windows".

I could use archlinux for my Rasperry.PIs, if the bootcode ist
Open Source.

Thanks anyway and
best regards,

It is not. The Pi is booted from a blob in the GPU that the SoC is, with a small ARM CPU on the silicon. It does not use U-Boot.

If these blobs were doing something surreptitious, it would have been sniffed out by now
