crond regularly maxes CPU

Hiya, I'm having an issue with crond. Every minute or so it will pop up and max my CPU to 100% (which I admit isn't all that hard on a Pi) for a further minute or so before disappearing. I have no need for cron and have no cron jobs for it to do so disabling it isn't a problem. Can someone help me out?
