archlinux on Cubox i4 does not boot any more

Postby zapatista » Fri Jan 16, 2015 8:32 pm

Hi all,

I'm running archlinux ARM on a Cubox i4 from Solid Run. No problems the last few months.

Now the small PC does not boot any more.

Error message on screen:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Give root password for maintenance
Control-D to continue: sulogin: cannot read /dev/tty1: Operation not permitted

The OS runs on a SD-Card.

Anything I can do to rescue the system?
Whatfor is the device tty1?

Thanks for all and regards,
Christian D.

What was the error just befor that?
tty1 is the video console, most likely you will have to check the rootfs file system because of corruption.

Ok, sorry if I missunderstand everything. But the situation is:
I just worked with it via SSH when s.th needs to be fixed. Otherwise it is just running Owncloud with client software. I am not able to give any orders to the console when I now connect directly with keyboard and monitor - besides Control+D.
Maybe it is possible to make fsck with an other Notebook?!?! The SD-Card is still working and the filesystem is still on it.

Before the error message the screen outputs: brcmfmac: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Firmware version = Oct 25 2011 version 5.90.125.104
It seems to need some time to load this module or daemon or what ever that is. After that the system requests to press Control+D and then: nothing.

Everthing seems to be correct.
umount
fsck /dev/sdb1

Result: clear

It does not boot up. At least I am in the console now and could navigate through the filesystem with root.

Do you have some advices where exactly I could check out any errors?!

Thanks.

I think it's time to backup data on card, make install on new card, update and then install require packages, and copy back data

If it used to boot, something (and it could be anything) is screwed up, it could be the card
