Samsung Chromebook installation instructions

Postby rfc » Sat Jul 04, 2015 3:04 am

I'm wondering if something happened to the installation instructions for the Samsung Chromebook (XE303C12) that used to be at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/samsung/samsung-chromebook. What's there now is identical to the instructions for the Chromebook 2. I thought the platforms were sufficiently different to require a different installation procedure.

Obviously something changed that required them to be updated.

The major difference is which tarball & kernel to be using, that is about it.

You can't install to the media you are booted off of.

I would like to give credit to whomever made the effort and took the time to re-do the Samsung Chromebook installation instructions I asked about in my initial post on this topic. I used a new SD card and the process, following the instructions, was flawless. No longer are we stuck on a 3.4 kernel with awkward work-arounds like freezing systemd at v216, etc. I was starting to think that an up-to-date and viable Arch Linux ARM installation on my Samsung Chromebook wasn't going to be possible much longer but, thanks to someone, support for this platform just took a big leap forward.

I tried an install based on a guide and video I found that was supposed to be for my model of chromebook. After several failed attempts I went back online and found Samsung guide via arch wiki. Followed instructions and rebooted in to Arch Linux Arm via USB.

Set up of wifi was easy, pacman works loads up xorg simply need to figure out configs for X.

Amazing work donation to project will follow
