Duh....

I don't think the kernel in "http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz" has drivers to boot from SATA....

I can boot just fine from a USB drive.... possible to get a kernel with SATA ? Happy to help in whatever way I can...

Thats odd, my GoFlex Net boots from SATA...

hmmm... the plot thickens then. Maybe something to do with the Marvell SATA controller. I can get details about the controller from the Tonido kernel, if that is helpful.

Strange when I do boot off the USB drive, and 'hotplug' the SATA disk, the OS does not see the drive. If I do the same thing running under the Tonido kernel, the insertion is seen and partitions mounted.

At work at the moment, will try to get more info later.

If that is the case with hotplug, I would say that there is something configured differently in udev, etc.

Hmm. Possibly a driver issue, but I can't say for sure.

Is there really nothing between "booting the kernel" and the barf?

What about a rootwait instead of rootdelay=10
And a couple of ide reset;
?
My trimslice won't boot to an (usb bottom) goflex drive, have to reboot to it
