Thank you for your replies. To connect the disk to my computer I'd need a double female usb cable, which I don't have. I could go and get one, but I was wondering if I could do it with an ethernet cable instead using NC? If so, how do I see if I can connect to it using Net Console?
Thank you for your help, it's really appreciated!

I haven't read whole thread, but you can connect nic of goflex direct to nic if (Linux) pc, it does not need a hub as its auto sensing and does cross over for you

Hi Bencori,
I have the GoFlex Home and I can connect it to my computer through SATA. The disk is connected to the base and can be put off (not sure "put off" is the good word, sorry for this English).
After you disconnect it, you can use a standard SATA cable to connect to the PC.
