XBMC PKGBUILD for raspberry pi

Postby tgc » Wed May 30, 2012 9:19 pm

I've managed to create a PKGBUILD for XBMC, hope it works for you. I set up distcc controlled by my raspberry booted with the 224-start.elf, and it managed to compile, but it did take some hours. In order to do the final linking and compression, swap was needed.
Enjoy :)

An older pkg build using the PKGBUILD below can be found here.

The PKGBUILD can be fuond in the AUR.

EDIT: updated dependencies
EDIT2: bumped to new git version, added pkg link
EDIT3-4: Overwrite local CFLAGS to armv6
EDIT5: bumped to new git version, updated pkg link
EDIT6: linked to AUR PKGBUILD

Nice it compiles. Does it actually run :P
Notice openmax disabled, which app actually runs the movies?
Do you have the pkg somewhere that I can try?
Thanks

It does actually run, and it works fine with h.264 video, though not much else...
I was a bit confused by the disabled openmax as well, but it uses a special builtin openmax player, only for raspberry.
Note that it runs on egl/gles, so no X11 is needed.
I will see if I can post a pkg somewhere tomorrow.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('tgc', ' ')works fine with h.264 video, though not much else...

Is this something that can be overcome or a limitation of the hardware?

The GPU in the raspberry can only decode h.264 video, anything else must be decoded by the CPU, which isn't the most powerful... The GPU could potentially handle MPEG2, but it isn't enabled in the firmware because it isn't licensed by the raspberry.

Thanks for that! Thought that might be the case but wasn't sure.
