Error when upgradinging from Pacman

Hello all, I get the following error when doing a $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Syu-')

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
filesystem: /var/lock exists in filesystem
filesystem: /var/run exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong? I really do not know a lot of linux so I do not know where to troubleshoot.
