[linux-raspberrypi-4.9.50-1] breaks Kodi

Postby amhairghin » Tue Sep 19, 2017 7:00 am

With the change introduced in this commit https://archlinuxarm.org/packages/armv7 ... 2d63967904 the /dev/vcsm device is missing and cannot play videos with Kodi.

Please revert this change or change kodi-rbp package to not use this device.

EDIT: turns out the issue kmihelich referred to is different than what I had fixed. I have another patch in the works, can follow here: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/2173

Is there a workaround? My RaspBerry Pi 3 is mainly used for Kodi, which means that it is kind of useless at the moment. :(
Even the new kernel 4.9.51 does not fix this issue.

You could downgrade to 4.9.49 or build your own kernel with my patches. I can upload some packages later if you want.

Downgrading via Pacman is not possible, is it? It would be nice, if you could provide me a patched package! :D

Any news here? I have the same problem. I'm currently using a self-built kernel with your patch as a workaround but I hope this will be fixed soon.

Update: by the way I uploaded my build kernel (with same revision number) here (seems to be too big for attachment)

Can probably downgrade to an old package if one is in your pacman cache, otherwise maybe not.

No news, need to wait for the pi commit to go in (https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/2206) then update the arch PKGBUILD. Thanks for supplying a package, been afk for the day.

Apparently you can disable MMAL in kodi settings too as a workaround. Source: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=12032&p=56776#p56796

I have an RPi3 running 4.9.51-1 that also lacks /dev/vcsm. I have both OMXPlayer and MMAL enabled and playback works. Is it a particular format of file you cannot play or everything?

On my raspberry pi2. Kodi freezes for a few minutes when I start any movie and then it crashes.

I have exactly the same issue as dirkvdb on my Raspberry PI 3. Files played with OMXPlayer directly work, but basically anything else crashes Kodi.
