[solved] linux-raspberrypi4 kernel and dual head

Postby bloke » Sat Jul 02, 2022 3:42 am

Hi,

Some time ago now I managed to get on the linux-raspberrypi4 kernel and check it out. It had dual head or dual screen capability for raspberry pi 4 and i been on it ever since.

My question is should I be on this kernel for dual screen (extended) capability or is it now in the main kernel like this

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ':'): Starting full system upgrade...
:: Replace linux-raspberrypi4 with core/linux-rpi? [Y/n]

I recall i did this once and lost all the capability and then re-installed linux-raspberrypi4 to get dual screen back.

This is my current packages & versions

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '#') pacman -Qs linux kernel
local/cpupower 5.18-1 (linux-tools)
Linux kernel tool to examine and tune power saving related features of your processor
local/iptables 1:1.8.8-1
Linux kernel packet control tool (using legacy interface)
local/kmod 29-3
Linux kernel module management tools and library
local/linux-api-headers 5.17.5-2
Kernel headers sanitized for use in userspace
local/linux-raspberrypi4 5.10.63-7
The Linux Kernel and modules - Raspberry Pi 4
local/ndctl 73-1
Utility library for managing the libnvdimm (non-volatile memory device) sub-system in the Linux kernel

I should add this is for aarch64
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')inux hostname 5.10.63-7-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 14 17:59:28 UTC 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux

What should I do if anything?

If i do upgrade or switch kernel how do i ensure i will have the dual screens running?

Thanks Bloke

The linux-raspberrypi4 package was replaced against linux-rpi some time ago. Thus it does not exist anymore and you’re not receiving any further updates for the kernel if you don‘t switch. This might expose your device at risk!

Ok, figured out what went wrong for me. Previously I wasn't aware that these files get saved to .pacsave files

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ':'): Processing package changes...
(1/1) removing linux-raspberrypi4 [######################] 100%
warning: /boot/config.txt saved as /boot/config.txt.pacsave
warning: /boot/cmdline.txt saved as /boot/cmdline.txt.pacsave

After upgrading and copying those .pacsave file back to the original filenames
/boot/config.txt
/boot/cmdline.txt

My config is restored and all works as previous.

iam now running
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')inux hostname 5.15.50-1-rpi-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 27 14:44:07 MDT 2022 aarch64 GNU/Linux
