linux-rpi-6.1.54-2-aarch64 hangs pi4 running GUI

Official supported driver is KMS driver not FKMS.

Issue is resolved by switching to KMS driver and kernel 6.1.58-1 for extended desktop (dual head) setup

note: fkms driver hangs in 6.1.58-1 as well.
