Hello darksky,
Again thanks for the output ! To bad then...

Hello graysky,
Yes indeed, this is why I tried to rebuild kodi-rpi with a newer version without success as suggest by darksky and people frommake_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/7228', '', ' class="postlink"')

On my side I have no log at all explaining what is going wrong but on the raspberrypi forum (link above) someone manage to have some.

For the video, it's specific to HEVC (H.265) codec, all other are working as usual.

System up to date this morning, issue still present.

I installed kodi-rpi with an up to date system and I am also getting the black screen with audio only. There is noting in the kodi log that presents an issue and not in the position to ssh to see if dmesg or journalctl shows any thing. h264 video plays just fine.

Looks to me kodi-rpi is fooled to thinking all is ok. See pic...

I built linux-rpi 6.18.7-1 and tested it and the x265 files play perfectly.

@Rapty if you want to test it also here is the link. I did provide the PKGBUILD also. Just install with sudo pacman -U *.xz.

Is this on RPi4 or 5?

rpi4. I have not seen anyone complain on the pi5. My pi5 died so can not test on it.

Side note:

Interesting I removed kodi-rpi packages and installed kodi-rpi-git and linux-rpi 6.18.10-1 packages and x265 video played just fine.

I've got the same issue since a few days on my rpi5. h264 works, h265 only sound and black screen.

kernel
Linux ... 6.18.10-1-rpi-16k #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 12 20:45:25 UTC 2026 aarch64 GNU/Linux
dmesg has a lot of those entries:
rpi-hevc-dec 1000800000.codec: data_byte_offset 16 + bits 3848 (= 481 bytes) > bytesused 481
