[bug] aarch64 kernel rejects sd cards on rpi4b

While installing the AArch64 version following https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... berry-pi-4 (ArchLinuxARM-2021.07-rpi-aarch64-rootfs.tar.gz) encountered the following error while booting: error -5 whilst initializing SD card. That happens after the system boots the kernel from the card. Tried several cards, all of them work with the ARMv7 system.

Found an old rootfs image elsewhere (dated 2020-07-12) and it booted OK, the system also boots after updating to the current kernel. So, please, update the installation image for aarch64-rpi4.

Used the link to the latest from the installation guide, and it failed to boot.

Wanted to rule out that you used the incorrect image as there is not one named what you called out. I followed-up install guide using the image as advertised and it worked just fine. Not sure what you did.

Hmm, I don't know what could go wrong with unpacking the install image, but here is how I did it:

1. I used GParted to partition SD cards. Tried two types of them: a couple of Samsung EVO Select 128 GB and an old Transcend 32 GB. Partitioned with GPT.

2. I created "boot" directory in the root partition and mounted the boot partition there before unpacking the rootfs tarball.

Prepared 32- and 64-bit cards in identical ways. I have here an RPi 4B 8 GB with the latest firmware as reported by rpi-eeprom-update.

Then I found an old FS image and with absolutely the same steps produced a working media.

I do not believe GPT is supported. I used fdisk as per the guide.

Well, it works with GPT and the last firmware, the guide can be updated.

The error anyway was from a lower level driver, about physical access to the card. It reported wrong voltages, as far as I remember, and other physical characteristics of the card. I will test with msdos partition table.

I repeated the installation attempt following the guide exactly and arrived at the same error. Here is a screenshot:

Bad SD card? Is this the identical one on which you got a successful system by using the older image?
