Local Mirror

Postby adontz » Wed Aug 20, 2014 8:14 am

Hello,

We have started development under ArchLinux ARM, and I want to setup local mirror for our development team, and freeze it periodically, so when developer sets up a new device he will update to exactly the same package versions as his teammates, will be able to use binaries compiled by teammates, etc. But, sometimes, as needed, weeks local mirror will be synchronized and everybody will upgrade packages/rebuild software.

I've found how to set up ArchLinux mirror, and did it sucessfully, but nothing about local ArchLinux ARM mirror. I've found no list of rsync mirror servers. So, how I am supposed to setup a local mirror?

Not via rsync. There are other viable methods ;)

However, I would like to point out that if you want to do a commercial product based on Arch Linux ARM, we do offer consulting services & repo handling for this purpose. Feel free to contact Core developers in regards to this.

No, not a commercial/closed-source product, it's not about hiding source code, it's about sharing compiled binaries. Actually, we're now compiling very special build of Qt, and we want to make sure all Qt5 dependencies are not newer than our build.

So, we just want to setup a local frozen mirror.

Anyway, how should I contact core developers regarding consulting services & repo handling?

Using wget means I will sync full repo on every attempt, not diffs. Yes, wget and a little scripting will do, but will it be the right way?

We do not offer any method to get rsync'd from a(nother) mirror. We're literally not meant to be frozen in time.

You got no help in IRC because you blatantly ignored responses given, at time, less than a minute after you asked a question.

Here's a wild thought: why don't you simply keep all developer machines up to date all the time? Then every machine is always referencing the same package versions. This action would typically only require less than one minute of your time at the beginning of every day. As has been stated, Arch is not a distribution designed to not be updated. If you require the distribution to not change, you should look into Debian stable.

Placing undue stress on our mirrors will not be appreciated, because it is highly doubtful that you need the tens of gigabytes of packages there for your one specific purpose.
Arch Linux ARM exists and continues to grow through community support, please donate today!
