[SOLVED] linux-rpi-16k-6.18-1-aarch64.pkg not booting on pi5

An upgraded RPi5
$ uname -r
6.18.1-1-rpi-16k
$ ls /dev/dri
ls: cannot access '/dev/dri': No such file or directory

Not upgraded
$ uname -r
6.12.55-1-rpi-16k
$ ls /dev/dri/
by-path card0 card1 renderD128

seem no issue on my . ( both boot off NVMe )

turns out this is a firmware issue. If this happens to you, you need to update your firmware to more recent version

$ rpi-eeprom-update
BOOTLOADER: up to date
CURRENT: Mon 08 Dec 2025 19:29:54 UTC (1765222194)
LATEST: Thu 01 Jan 1970 00:00:00 UTC (0)
RELEASE: default (/usr/lib/firmware/raspberrypi/bootloader/default)

I updated and the issue is gone. Using my Rpi5 right now
$ uname -r
6.18.1-1-rpi-16k

# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep Model
Model : Raspberry Pi 5 Model B Rev 1.0

booting off of nvme.
