$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('graysky', 'D')oes firmware-raspberrypi-20210217 fix the issue for folks using other models? Works on RPi4B.

RPi0W reporting. The firmware-raspberrypi update did resolve the issue for me, but ONLY if linux-firmware is also downgraded to the previous version. The downgrade by itself didn't work, and the new firmware-raspberrypi-20210217 also did not work with the current linux-firmware.

In conclusion, I can confirm that wlan0 only works with the specific combination of firmware-raspberrypi-20210217 and linux-firmware-20201218.646f159 for me.

Here's my dmesg after upgrading linux-firmware back to latest. Verified that wlan0 went missing again.

Re: [linux-firmware] Raspberry pi 4 wlan0 is missing

Postby kmihelich » Fri Feb 19, 2021 2:24 am

Do a full system upgrade now, getting the latest linux-firmware and firmware-raspberrypi. Should be fixed.
Arch Linux ARM exists and continues to grow through community support, please donate today!

Unfortunately, the new firmware-raspberrypi doesn't work with the latest linux-firmware on my RPi0. It fact, it doesn't work with the previous linux-firmware, either!

Here's what my dmesg put out. This was with all packages fully updated.

Re: [linux-firmware] Raspberry pi 4 wlan0 is missing

Postby gdr01 » Fri Feb 19, 2021 1:59 pm

Perhaps this will help the bug fixers.
My new RPI is zero not loading the firmware to create wlan0, (using latest Archarm)
I know it works as I tested with RasbianOS.
If I add a wifi dongle the
this is output from grep of dmesg for firmware
the rtl8192cu is my added wifi dongle -- edimax

I found this in dmesg

I think there is a typo in the file name somewhere.

Re: [linux-firmware] Raspberry pi 4 wlan0 is missing

Postby keithspg » Sat Feb 20, 2021 2:01 am

I usually wait these big show stoppers out, but started pulling on the thread tonight. The suggestion of downdraging the firmware from @graysky fixed my Pi3b, but my zero is still wireless-less.
dmesg shows this:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[ 23.287292] brcmfmac mmc1:0001:1: Direct firmware load for brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.raspberrypi,model-zero-w.txt failed with error -2
[ 23.287452] brcmfmac mmc1:0001:1: Direct firmware load for brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.txt failed with error -2
[ 24.291505] brcmfmac: brcmf_sdio_htclk: HT Avail timeout (1000000): clkctl 0x50')
and ifconfig wlan0 up shows no interface
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# ifconfig wlan0 up
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
~# uname -r
5.10.16-3-ARCH
')
Any ideas?

Same on the Pi0w, but this time with the firmware-raspberrypi package. I updated them one by one until I lost wlan0, and it broke at this package in particular

Re: [linux-firmware] Raspberry pi 4 wlan0 is missing

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Synch', 'U')nfortunately, the new firmware-raspberrypi doesn't work with the latest linux-firmware on my RPi0. It fact, it doesn't work with the previous linux-firmware, either!

If downgrading to the previous version of the firmware (then rebooting) does not recover WiFi for the Zero, ie:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/linux-firmware-20201218.646f159-1-any.pkg.tar.xz')

We need to figure out where the breakage occurs for RPi Zero. Someone with this hardware needs to help here/I do not have a Zero for testing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SpectralMemories', 'S')ame on the Pi0w, but this time with the firmware-raspberrypi package. I updated them one by one until I lost wlan0, and it broke at this package in particular

Are you saying that it is in fact the firmware-raspberrypi package and not linux-firmware that breaks WiFi?
What are the last-known good versions of:

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

ArchLinuxARM-rpi-4-latest.tar.gz

just installed and updated:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[alarm@alarmpi ~]$ pacman -Q linux-raspberrypi4 linux-firmware firmware-raspberrypi
linux-raspberrypi4 5.10.16-3
linux-firmware 20210208.b79d239-1
firmware-raspberrypi 20210218-1
')

appears to be working:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[ 14.117428] brcmfmac: brcmf_fw_alloc_request: using brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio for chip BCM43430/1

')

ArchLinuxARM-rpi-aarch64-latest.tar.gz

after full system upgrade:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[alarm@alarm ~]$ pacman -Q linux-aarch64 firmware-raspberrypi linux-firmware
linux-aarch64 5.11.0-1
firmware-raspberrypi 20210218-1
linux-firmware 20210208.b79d239-1
')

not working:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '

am happy to use the ArchLinuxARM-rpi-4-latest.tar.gz (perhaps always should have been?), info above is in case it helps.
