I've already reinstalled via pacman, but it does not solve the issue. Seems the signature data is missing for all "official" owncloud apps. Was fine before on 8.2, but I am not sure if code signing is a new feature of v9.

I've tried that 5 times before posting the error ;-)
But I've read the Doc. again and checked for the core/signature.json, which isn't there. It isn't included in the arch linux package. That triggers the error. I've supplied the signature.json and now there are even more messages about missing files...

I think the package maintainer was a bit sloppy on this one.

I get the fact a package should be complete, but why not just download the .tar.bz2 to your webserver root, extract and configure to your needs?

It's just a bunch of php files and updates are simple.

ownCloud upgrades are a bit more complex in my opinion, a distro package can run `occ upgrade` without timeout issues on upgrade for example. It makes sense to have it as a distro package. Other tools are easier to integrate as well (libreoffice for example).

Anyway, if the maintainer provides an invalid package, it would be best not to provide one. People tend to rely on it, and this one is clearly not in good shape.

Updating is simply backing up your config.php and overwrite everything, then restore config.php. Not to sound too brash, but it can't get any simpler.

But again, yes, the package needs looking into if critical files are missing if people opt for that installation method.

Nope. Upgrading also upgrades database structures. Which can take a while, hence timeouts during the "normal" procedure which can be avoided using system tools.
