ODROID XU4 kernel 4.9.51-1 removes /dev/fb0

The latest kernels for the ODROID XU3 removes the /dev/fb0 device needed for console hardware opengl.
/dev/mali0 is still there but you need /dev/fb0 to query screen sizes etc

Is it me or has pretty much every update since July bricked some feature or other on RPI and ODROID?

This came back in the next kernel update, but now seems to have vanished again with the latest kernel:
4.9.56-1-ARCH

So once again hardware opengl without X11 is broken.

Ok I've figured out what is happening here.
On ODROID XU4 you only get /dev/fb0 if the HDMI is connected and the monitor is on.
This is different from the Raspberry pi's, and ODROID-C2 where you get /dev/fb0 regardless.

There are plenty of use cases for having /dev/fb0 without a physical display being attached.
