thunderbird again (version 60)

Postby risto3 » Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:29 am

After seemingly getting a primary culprit fixed (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/59585)
I still have numerous problems on aarch64 running on a nfs4 home directory.

Starting up in safe-mode seems to help a bit, but not totally... that is, tbird is rather unstable again.

Anybody else seeing this?

[updated 28/08/2018] finally filed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1486705
where it was suggested to try Charles Robinson's suggestion found in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1461041#c1

Don't know if I can quickly get to this as I don't currently have a [cross] build environment set up, but perhaps an alarm maintainer? (kmihelich?) With a tarball I can quickly update to give it a whirl...

To update my findings, using safe-mode I disabled all extensions and re-enabled them one by one.

Turns out that the culprit causing the SEGV's is "lightning" (which is now supposedly builtin).

Although necessary, at least we're able to avoid remotely running thunderbird for the time being
but missing calendars is painful.

I have had Thunderbird segfault at start for every version since 60.0 in aarch64. A few weeks ago I emailed the primary developer who builds thunderbird for arm and was told he was looking into it but that mozilla packages have been difficult to build with code that runs well in aarch64 for some time. I could not even get TB to start in safe mode!
