[icu] 65.1-2 breaks [thunderbird] 60.8.0-1

Postby lvml » Wed Nov 20, 2019 11:21 am

After updating package icu to version 65.1-2, the most recent thunderbird 60.8.0-1 does not start anymore due to missing:

libicui18n.so.64: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

(Same for libicuuc.so.64)

Trying to just use the version 64 shared libraries by symlinking them does not work around the problem, then thunderbird aborts with:
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/thunderbird/libxul.so:
/usr/lib/thunderbird/libxul.so: undefined symbol: ureldatefmt_format_64

I have the same issue on my Raspberry pi4, updated 2019-12-10.
Is there an archive for arm packages as a temporary solution?

I have the same issue with RPi4B. Ran fine until latest OS updates and reboot failed to start Thunderbird.

Results from running in terminal:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/thunderbird/libxul.so:
libicui18n.so.64: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.')

I read the post above at the link provided but that made no sense to me. I searched online and only found older posts. The other comment about a newer release I attempted today and got the results below. Can someone provide a solution to this or a workaround? I'd like to keep my OS updated without breaking these apps.

Instead of this:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('frankgould', '
')$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[fgould@FrankArch ~]$ sudo pacman -S thunderbird
')

try this to update repository and your system (including thunderbird):
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
sudo pacman -Syu
')

Using only '-S' re-installs the version you have installed currently. Also, don't use -Sy
