[bind] root.hint gone - why?

Howdy,

in the latest version of bind the file root.hint (containing the IPs of the DNS root servers) is gone. This results in bind failing to start if this file is still included from named.conf. Removing it from the config makes bind start again and bind seems to work fine ... but where the heck is it getting the root server IPs from (no, it's not forwarding)?

Can someone explain?
