mkinitcpio-37-1 upgrade error

Postby karog » Fri Nov 17, 2023 1:22 pm

pacman upgraded to mkinitcpio-37-1 on odroid-xu4 and caused the following error which provides no useful info. Downgraded yielded no problem.

Same problem here. I didn't try rebooting, so I don't know what the impact of this error is.

I also did not reboot with this error tho after downgrading I did reboot and that succeeded.

Same here. I did not try a reboot prior to downgrading to 36.1, which succeeded on the rebuild. It would be nice if pacman threw a more descriptive error than "WARNING: errors were encountered during the build. The image may not be complete." Even the log file showed nothing more.

Is there a problem with mkinitcpio 37-1?

Postby mtnflyr » Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:58 pm

I have been running ARMv7h on a raspberry pi4 headlessly for a year or so. After pacman -Syu today I get:

Creating gzip-compressed initcpio image: '/boot/initramfs-linux.img'
WARNING: errors were encountered during the build. The image may not be complete.

Downgraded mkinitcpio from 37-1 to 36-1 and WARNING is no longer present.

Image generation successful.

Is this a problem that could prevent the pi4 from booting? Should I leave mkinitcpio on the IgnorePkg list temporarily?
Anyone else seeing this, or is it unique to my setup?

I have very limited knowledge of this subject but enjoy learning and will appreciate any response.

Same chain of events with the same results on Raspberry Pi4 with ARMv7 installed. Will follow this thread and leave mkinitcpio on IgnorePkg list for now.

Is there a way to get some diagnostics to help with this report? Presumably there is either a packaging error, or an unsatisfied dependency that isn't present? I also found nothing useful in the logs. It would be good to resolve this and have the mkinitcpio package match that on the arch Linux repos.
