[powertop] 2.0 segfault on sheevaplug

Postby ruidc » Tue May 15, 2012 7:01 pm

previous version worked fine, the new one segfaults on start after referring to two cache files that are not present:

Cannot load from file /var/cache/powertop/saved_results.powertop
Cannot load from file /var/cache/powertop/saved_parameters.powertop
Segmentation fault

Does anybody else get this?

I'd like to submit a bug report to the powerTOP devs, but guess i'll need to be set up to recompile with debug symbols for it to be of any use.

I wish others could jump in here and inform if it works for them or not (this is a very non-intrusive package to install and run).
I've sent a stack trace to the developers:

It seems a patch is needed to get it to work on Sheevaplug:

http://lists.01.org/pipermail/powertop/ ... 00052.html

Could the ALARM maintainer for this package update the PKGBUILD for testing and then the powertop devs can hopefully include this fix in the next revision.

Thanks in advance.

The patch seems to get past the segfault, but I now get kernel configuration pre-requisites message :

PowerTOP v2.0 needs the kernel to support the 'perf' subsystem
as well as support for trace points in the kernel:

CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS=y
CONFIG_TRACEPOINTS=y
CONFIG_TRACING=y

all these except CONFIG_PERF_COUNTERS are already set in https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUIL ... nux/config
