How to debug failing boot (Samsung XE303C12)?

Now that ChromeOS support for the Samsung XE303C12 Chromebook has been dropped, it would be nice to be able to install a free Linux like ALARM onto it. However, it currently seems that the boot process from USB/SDcard just fails with beeps. How would one start debugging this?
