RP1 image on a RP3

Postby cbrown330 » Wed Dec 06, 2017 7:39 pm

My company has a RP1 image that runs Arch Linux. I wrote a python script that run on the OS and works great on the RP1, since that is what I wrote it for a couple of years ago. Now we are upgrading and the use of the RP3 wants to be used. I have been told that we should be able to just change the kernel that will allow my image to boot on an RP3 while keeping the script and operation intact. I have tried just replacing the kernel files but still cant get the RP3 to boot, any insight would be awesome and thank you in advance.

Honestly, you are better off installing Arch from scratch on your new micro-SD card for the RPi3. Installing Arch is quick and easy. Then just copy your python program over. Best to create a systemd service file to auto-start it at boot etc if you are not already.

Which kernel bits did you replace? Did you replace them from the RPi2 or RPi3 tarballs?
