Building kernel

Postby Budland » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:59 am

I have followed the instructions to build and install a new kernel on my goflex home. It doesn't error out, but it doesn't boot either. U-boot says it is passing to the kernel, but then nothing on the kernel net console. Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

I did a make install modules and then moved the kernel into place. Any pointers would be appreciated.

ensure that you have the mkimage utility. pacman -Sy uboot-utils I think.

make uImage modules modules_install
cp arch/arm/boot/uImage /boot

Yes, that is what I did. I copied the kernel into place and I could see that u-boot was loading it, but the kernel netconsole didn't come to life. I basically took the config.gz as the config, the just wanted to add a driver for a USB video cam from easycap. I ended up compiling the module and putting it into place, but would like to make sure I can get a kernel working so I might be able to optimize further. I had forgot what it is like to deal with small RAM :)
