new SMILEplug u-boot & rootFS not booting

Postby lharmon » Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:45 pm

I am trying to use the new u-boot posted to the archlinuxarm/smileplug page. But Linux is not booting!

I tftpd the new uboot.bin and flashed it - no problem
I downloaded the rootfs, ArchLinuxARM-2013-08-smileplug-rootfs.tar.gz, and extracted it to a uSD card (using sudo su)
I tftps the old uImage file and flashed it using the old instructions (I guess it is not used when booting from the uSD card)

Here is my console output:
BootROM 1.08
Booting from NAND flash
DDR3 Training Sequence - Ver 2.1.6
DDR3 Training Sequence - Number of DIMMs detected: 1
DDR3 Training Sequence - Ended Successfully
BootROM: Image checksum verification PASSED

I tried another uSD card and now get different results - still bad:

ping failed; host 8.8.8.8 is not alive
Loading file "/boot/uImage" from mmc device 0:1 (mmcda1)
undefined instruction

r3 : 005ff6ec r2 : 00000000 r1 : 6a008208 r0 : 600001d3

When I try to use the MMC commands I get invalid results:
Marvell>> mmc rescan
Marvell>> mmc part 0

???

Additionally USB commands don't work! I don't see my usb flash drive
Inserting a second drive caused the system to reset !!

You don't tftp the old kernel in, you don't use the old instructions, that's why they're marked old.

USB 3.0 doesn't work from U-Boot.

I know the rootfs and booting from MMC works, I lost count of how many times I've recreated the drives. Try a different card, be sure you're following the instructions.

Also, this is a testing setup for the mainline kernel, and was only released by request.

Hi, I'm new to archlinuxarm - where can I find more information about how to break my Smileplug as you did (in fact I already broke it by playing around with the firewall)?

I want to know where you guys got the SmilePlug and how much it cost you.

I recall the Engadget article on it costing $30, but too bad it never even came close to that price. I last I check it was like $200.
