Minimum size of linux and ram requirements

What should be minimum size of ram required to run the embedded linux with latest kernel 3.x, I am getting a rasberry pi with 256 mb of ram ? comments please

You can squeeze it into as low as 32Mb. They would not be advertising the Pi as a linux device if it would not work with 256MB.

Depends what you are getting it for. If you want to run kde on it even 512 won't be enough
