custom kernel odroid c1 does not boot

custom kernel odroid c1 does not boot

Postby lasneka » Thu Jan 21, 2016 12:54 pm

Dear all,
I need the JFS module in the kernel so i recompiled it using the PKGBUILD instructions, checked out the git repo, changed the build func to start nconfig, selected JFS (and XFS while I was at it, both with ACL support) and ran makepkg. Build completes without problems, but after I installed the produced package the machine does not come up. It is headless so i dont know what is happening on the console (if anything). Did I miss some steps?
thanks,

Hook it up to something. Serial, display, something.

"Does not come up" is not enough to troubleshoot.

Hi, don't really have anything to hook it up to, at start the blue led lights up, blinks twice and then goes dead.
Before I go and try to borrow/buy a monitor and an HDMI cable, is there something else that in principle needs touching, e.g. the bootloader? Or should, in principle, installing the kernel package be enough?
thanks,

I'm actually in the same boat.

I've tried following the build instructions posted here: https://github.com/umiddelb/armhf/wiki/ ... ARM-device (for both mainline & experimental) and I get the same result of the blue heartbeat going for about 10 seconds and stopping.

My goal is to be able to compile custom kernels and assist with updating the odroid kernel.

I don't have a null serial cable, but if you can assist me in what I equipment I need to purchase, I'll do so.

Hi,

I've got a null cable and was observing the boot process. Since I've followed the build instructions, I'm not sure what went wrong. Any and all help is really appreciated. Here are the lines that show the error I'm getting:

Did you apply all the ALARM patches?

Hi Warhead,

Thank you for replying. I've rebuilt the new 3.10.96 kernel and I'm still suffering from the same problem. My process is:
* clone PKGBUILDs from git
* cd to core/linux-odroid-c1
* update the pkgrel variable in PKGBUILD
* run `updpkgsums`
* run `makepkg -s` -- which should include the patch file you mention
* wait about 1 hour
* install the compiled projects with packman -U

Hopefully that shows where my problem lies.

Are you compiling in got checkout? The patch won't apply then
